In 1891 the Mc Kinley Tariff Act of America required all imports to America to bear the name of the country of origin. So, an item bearing the words - England - or another country, will probably have been produced in or after 1891.

D.R.G.M. registration was introduced 1891 and if you are dating items you should hold in mind that even during Allied occupation up until 1949, registration procedures remained untouched and still used the D.R.G.M. registration documents, which of course explains why D.R.G.M. marks can be found on products actually manufactured up until 1952 as the registration itself was valid for three years. As from the end of October 1952, all registrations were definately marked with 'Deutsches Bundesgebrauchsmuster' (D.B.G.M.)

The earlier oval cartouche on the (London) dome reads simply F C Rein Inventor 108 Strand and dates the trumpet to circa 1860.
The cartouche reads Down Bros Makers London dating the piece from 1874
Maw and Sons were registered in 1860 and Maw Son & Sons in 1901

According to Bennion they were in business from 1866.

W. H. Bailey and Son. 45 Oxford St., London - at the base of the stem ‘English made’.
They traded in 38 Oxford St from 1894.
Max Wocher & Son Co were based in Cincinnati Ohio from 1897 to 1900.
Audiscope Pat Pend. Amer. Earphone. Co. N.Y. This company made non electronic hearing aids in the 1920s
